Family and Marriage

God's design for marriage as the lifelong union of one man and one woman is the foundation of a thriving society and economy. CCV presses that conviction where laws are made, building what works in Ohio, then scaling it to statehouses across the country and equips families and churches to act on it.

Life & Family
The moral claim

Genesis 2:24, ESV:Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Every law makes a moral claim and there is no neutral legislation. Every statute assumes something about what a person is, what a family is, and what a society owes the vulnerable. Christians are not intruding on public policy by showing up, the claims are already being made, with or without us.

CCV shows up where those claims are made.

In CCV’s words

What CCV believes, and what it has done

The family is the fundamental building block of a healthy society, divine in design and essential for human prosperity. Center for Christian Virtue affirms marriage as a holy, lifelong covenant exclusively between one man and one woman.

01

Safeguarding Parents’ Rights

CCV heavily endorsed and helped pass Ohio’s HB 8, a landmark law allowing parents to opt their children out of sexuality content and requiring schools to notify parents about their child’s health and gender identity.

02

Defending the Nuclear Family in Policy

CCV has consistently lobbied against state and local legislation that penalizes the traditional family unit, fighting to eliminate state-funded domestic partnership expansions.

03

Advocating for the Success Sequence

CCV successfully advocated for every child in Ohio public schools to be taught “the Success Sequence” — the research-based path that shows the surest path to avoiding poverty is graduating high school, getting a job, and getting married before having children.

04

Revealing the Strength of the Family

In partnership with the Institute for Family Studies, CCV releases the annual Family Structure Index, a nationwide report measuring the health, strength, and stability of American families across all 50 states.

05

Promoting Marriage Between a Man and a Woman

Spearheaded by former CCV President Phil Burress, CCV successfully led the 2004 campaign to pass a state constitutional amendment defining marriage exclusively as between one man and one woman.

Where CCV stands

Ohio is our proving ground, but America is our mission.

CCV builds, tests and wins state-level battles at home, then scales what works, exporting successful models and deploying resources to state-based allies across the country.
